GANGA or
GANGES, the well-known river of India, which still connects India and
Bangladesh even after political division of The Country. In India Ganga has
varieties of names and it has various of ways, in Bangladesh it is renowned as
PADMA. There are few renowned cities which are situated in the bank of the
river Ganga, among those Kolkata is one of the best cities which has few great
pictorial viewpoints of the River. Here, you will be witnessing the views of
famous riverbanks through the eyes of Kolkata’s Trending.
1.Bagbazar
launch Ghat
Bagbazar
ghat is situated on the bank of Hooghly River which is one of the oldest banks
of North Kolkata. Many people visit the place throughout the year. It was once
called Rogo Meeter’s Ghat after Raghu Mitra, son of Gobindram Mitra, one of the
most influential natives of North Kolkata. This ghat as it name suggests has
the ferry services to Baranagar(kutighat), Fairley Place(known as B.B.D Bag),
Armeniam Ghat( known as Howrah).
To
reach Bagbazar Launch Ghat, the nearest Metro
station will be Shyambazar. From there it’s a walking distance which will take
15 to 20 minutes to reach else auto services are also available. Or you can
avail Kolkata Circular Railway and get down at Bagbazar station.
2.Bagbazar Mayer Ghat
Bagbazar
Mayer Ghat which is previously known as Pagla Babur Ghat , is named after
Sarada Ma who had spent her final days over here. People Visit this place to
visit the temple adjacent to the ghat as well as it is quite famous for its
ganga aarti during the evening. No other ghats of Kolkata offers that. Most of
the day the place seems crowded as it is a very lovely joint of addas and
goships, with a sip of tea and your closest ones (or, the closest one) you can
spend here times away from the hustle bustle of Kolkata by
watching the serene beauty of Ganga.
How
to Reach: This place is a connecting ghat of Bagbazar
Launch Ghat. You can avail Metro and get down at Shyambazar.or You can get on
to a train from DumDum Junction which is going towards Majherhat and get down
at Bagbazar. You will find out the ghat on your right side.
3. Mullick Ghat or Jagannath Ghat
This
ghat is famous for two reasons though many people are still not aware of its
existence, so most of the time this ghat remains less crowded. Nowadays because
of the Photography centric generation it has started coming into limelights.
This is one of the best places of Kolkata for pre and post wedding shootings.
Okay as I have mentioned about two reasons, the first reason is here you
can get the closest view of Howrah Bridge.
And the Second Reason is here you can see
one of largest flower markets which is named as Mullick Ghat Flower Market,
Most of the time of a day it remains crowded, but still the best time to visit
the place is 7a.m in the morning as in this time hawkers from different places
come to sell their flowers.
How
To Reach: The nearest railway station is Burrabazar ( as
mentioned earlier you need to get on to a train from DumDum junction which is
going towards Majherhat [Circular Railway Line] and get down at Burrabazar
station) though from station the
distance to ghat would be much so you can avail a taxi from Sealdah Station and
get down at your desired location.
4.Babughat
Babughat
is an old ghat which was set up by the British. This place doesn’t demand any
descriptions as people from all over India know atleast the name of this ghat
as here you can see the main bus stop of Kolkata except Esplanade and Howrah
Station from which you can get the bus services of any places. You name the
destinations of West Bengal and I am sure the bus services are available here. So
maximum time this ghat nearby the bus stop remains crowded as people from many
places wait here for their buses. As it is on the Strand Road, by walking you
can also visit Millenium Park which is a very renowned park of Kolkata. And
this place is also very close to the famous office para of Kolkata,
Dalhousie.
How to Reach: As this place is quite often visited by
people, you can get varieties of bus services of different routes which will
take you to Babughat or else you can avail taxi, Uber, Ola Services from
Sealdah Railway Station which can take you to Babughat. Circular Railway is
also available, the nearest railway station is Eden Gardens. This is one of the
famous cremation ghats of Kolkata.
5. Princep Ghat
Princep
Ghat or James Princep ghat is one of the recreational spots of Kolkata visited
by maximum number of people all throughout the year. This place is one of the
oldest ghats which was set up in the year of 1843. People visit it in the
evenings and stroll on the bank of the river and here you may find varieties of
food stalls, one or two of them are literally age old and still quite famous.
You may arrange a romantic boat ride for your loved one here. A beautiful path
of 2 kms from Princep ghat to Babughat had been inaugurated in 2012 which has
wonderful landscaped gardens, renovated ghats and nicely decorated fountains.
Whatever the memories you gather from here definitely remain with you forever.
How
to Reach: Kolkata Circular Railway is available. Nearby
Railway station is Princep Ghat. Otherwise the bus services and taxi services
are also available here. You must visit this place if you come to Kolkata.

visiting those.
