Baranti- A 2days' Retreat From the Hustle Bustle of Kolkata

I know what you guys must be thinking that this is a place where I have said I will write about Kolkata. But this above mentioned place is equally important to be written as my blog is for the people also, people who love to travel and love to eat. From the hectic daily schedule everyone needs a break but maximum times the respective bosses remain in denial in order to sanction our leaves. For these reasons weekend trips to the nearby places are trending now. And me being one of the above mentioned employee, tired and exhausted in daily schedule decided to go to an offbeat place which is nearby Kolkata. I have researched everywhere that's possible for me. Last year Purulia remained a talking Tom in every travellers' descriptions. So I had decided to go to Garhpanchkot and stay there for two days. Along with my family three other families of my friends were also in the group. One of my friend suggested the name Baranti , So after finalising the place we were looking for the decent hotel as in resort.
And from again some pages of Facebook We got to know about Mahulban Hill Resort.

So when we heard about this resort immediately I contacted with the manager Rajiv Pandey, who very patiently listened to all my queries and suggested two rooms that would be in downstairs and two rooms would be in upstairs. As all the conversations happened through WhatsApp ,he sent the photos of the resorts, the pictures of the room and travel itinerary also. Along with that I also informed him we would avail the package system of food which costs 400 for each persons including Breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks, Dinner. And the rooms that we opted for two rooms downstairs which basically looked like small cottages cost 1300 bucks for each, which can accommodate 3 persons easily and the rooms upstairs cost 1500 bucks for each. As he informed we would have to pay the certain amount as an advance we paid around 5600 bucks through NEFT, and he confirmed the bookings. Since the maximum members of our group are aged by age we had decided to go by road. But you can go by train easily.

How to Reach Baranti  You can avail a train which has a drop at Muradi station, From the station it's not very far away.and the above mentioned resort also has pick up and drop facility upto there.

If you want to go by road then take the Durgapur Asansol Expressway Road, and you will be able to reach the place easily . But before going there by road homework is strictly needed..
On 14th of December our journey started , though the start was not good as the driver that the car service provided us knew nothing beyond Dankuni toll..After that Google map was our only hope. Beware of That . But all the exhaustion vanished the time we reached our location. The view seemed amazing, as we were already late , the staffs were all ready with the lunch, We had Rice, Dal, Begun bhaja, Alu Posto, fish , chatni and papad in lunch.

As all were tired that day me and my friends went to visit the place which is in walking distance as the Ramchandrapur Dam   ,But after 6o'clock in the evening it's better to get back to the resorts since it's an offbeat place. The entire evening we spent by giving addas over tea, Muri and Alur Chop. At 9:30 we were called for the dinner. The dinner was also awesome. You can tell them your preferences , on basis of that they will serve. And on the very first day we were overwhelmed by their hospitality. The way they were looking after us that homely feelings were there. That one of things to be remembered about Mahulban Hill Resort.

Next Day as we had already planned for Garpanchkot, Panchet Dam and Joychandi Pahar. As per the plan we went out in the next morning at around 10o'clock from our Resort, as we had the car with us, we took that car only, You can easily get Toto or Cars to visit the nearby places. Our first destination was Garhpanchkot which is basically the ruin fort located in the Eastern part of India. And it remains the testimony of Bargi attack of 18th century. Along with the history this place is also known for a temple and the structure of the temple is again a proof of the place that this is PURULIA .
The Ruined fort of Garhpanchkot.
After this place we went to visit Panchet Dam, basically a dam, who loves to visit the places close to River they can enjoy the view but there's nothing much to see. Through this bridge only you can go to Maithon where we went on the next day as it's the easiest way to reach Maithon. After this we went to Joychandi Pahar which has proclaimed of having 280 steps. And on top of the hill there's one temple. Stepping on those stairs though seemed easy but it took my breath away for sometimes. You need to carry a water bottle with you. After reaching the top place the view would steal away the tiredness of yours....

There's one temple where you can give your offerings to
Chandi Mata.

At around 4 o clock we returned to the resort and like yesterday they were waiting for us for the lunch. We had our lunch , it was tasty and homely. At around 8o' clock in the evening we had successfully arranged a bonfire along with Chicken Barbeque. As I am a lover of barbeque it was one of the best moments of the whole journey. Soft, Subtle music had been playing in the background, and we were enjoying the bonfire. For this we had to pay 750rs in total , we just paid the amount and all the arrangements were done by them only.

Next day was the day which nobody wanted. We had to come back to the normal life. We bade goodbye to the manager and the stuffs and expressed the fact that we were overwhelmed with the hospitality and promised them to come back to Baranti again. After leaving the resort I got a message in my WhatsApp from Rajib Pandey Ki 'Thank You, Visit Us Again'..That brought a smile on my face unknowingly. I replied back 'Thanks for the hospitality, will definitely come back'.

Before going back to normal life we had decided to visit Maithon which is itself a renowned place for the tourists. We had taken the bridge over panchet dam and reached Maithon within 45 minutes. The View of the river Damodar is next to explainable, there you can avail boat ride by paying mininum 300 Rs. Then we got to know within 10 minutes of distance there's Kalyaneswari Temple.

Though I heard about this temple beforehand. I didnt heard positive things about the place which I am not going to share the detail as it's unnecessary but I informed them and unfortunately they experienced the same. But again with this mixture of positive and negative feelings we started our journey towards Kolkata.

In this whole journey I have taken many pictures. Some of them I am posting with this. Hopefully you will appreciate.

And We have come with loads of love and jaggeries.

If you want to visit Baranti you may contact on the given number.

Today I will talk about a gem that I found out one day suddenly with the help of internet. The Denmark Tavern, by the name you have already guessed that the place would be anyway related to Denmark.   Yes, you guessed it right but its rightly located not anywhere but in the outskirts of Kolkata, Serampore. Some of you would be hearing the name for the first time 😃. If you have read history well in your school days (which I haven’t) you would know that from the year 1755 the urbanization of Serampore started with the arrival of Danes. And they had built the Danish Colonial Empire. They used to buy goods from Sheoraphuli hat which they used to export in the European Countries through the way of River Ganga and for this purpose they had taken lands which was situated closel
