Exploring the Famous Street Foods in Kolkata

We, the people of Bengal are known for their love when it comes to foods. I always think we are born like a bhukkad😆. No, not all, I know there are many who are equally concerned about their diets whereas there are many like us for whom it seems like whenever we see food its calling us. Weird right? But its irresistible. Today I am going to take you through some of the mouth watering street foods of Kolkata Which are famous and loved by many.

1.James Hickiey Sarani / Dacres Lane

We are talking about street foods and we will not be talking about Dacres Lane aka James Hickiey Sarani how it’s possible even? So, this lane is in Esplanade, nearby famous sweet shop of Kolkata, K.C. Das. So, as per the location it can be found out very easily. The street is very famous among the office goers as here you can find varieties of street foods within your budget. Talking about budget and the first name of the shop which comes in mind is CHITTO BABUR DOKAN.
CHITTO BABUR DOKAN It is an age-old shop in this lane which has been feeding the people of kolkata for agesby now. It is one of the shops in Dacres Lane which claims to provide healthy food in a pocket friendly price. I have seen many vlogs made on this shop by numerous youtubers and decided to give it a try. Though after reading few reviews on Zomato I found out that different people are telling different prices for same food. I went there having a pre-assumption but I was wrong. Must try foods in this shop are Chicken Stew, Mutton Stew with Toast. We have ordered Chicken Stew with Toast which costs 101 bucks. The stew is really healthy as minimum spices are used.

They have become famous because of this Toast and Chicken Stew and it's worth giving a try. Though at present if you visit this place you will find maximum people grabbing Toast and Ghugni(Chickpeas) and its awesome in taste. Now mainly for the office people they are providing Khichri Thali in 30 bucks only. There you can find varieties of Chops in a very reasonable price. I have had there tea at 7 bucks which is not some extraordinary but average. If you visit the lane the third shop on your left is what you are looking for.
Chowmein, Chicken Pakora, Momo - Yes you are hearing right. If you don't want to have chicken stew and toast then you can go to the shop which is on the opposite side of the above mentioned shop. Hence, here all are street foods so you will not be finding any specific name of the shop but if you try their food you will remember their location by heart. All these shops provide foods in kind of cheaper prices but their quality and quantity of food are amazing. Chowmein, Chicken Pakora these are common street foods which you can have within 50 bucks even, in Kolkata. As in the pictures you can see and I have also mentioned, you can find here lots of options for food, So you can also grab here Nunpuri along with Alur Dum/Chana Masala.

Deserts In DACRES - After having all these yummy food there will be definitely a need of satisfying your sweet tooth.Don't worry this lane will not disappoint you as you can find here a shop which is providing Moong Dal Halua, Gajar ka Halua, Rabdi at an ordinary price. And the cherry on top of the cake is their Lassi which is heavenly in taste. It’s the adjoining shop to Chitto Babur Dokan ,It’s a small shop which can be easily missed out but it is the only sweet shop in the lane. And if you have 30 rupees in your pocket you can go to the shop and ask for anything from the above mentioned items.

2.Parkstreet

Parkstreet is known for its famous buildings , rich culture, and its wellknown restaurants and pubs(night life). If you walk on this street you will find names such as Mularush, The Bar B-Q, Starbucks, Recently Opened HardRock Café, Au Bon Pain, Barbeque Nation, The Street and the list is still on. Not only the restaurants but also various Brands are having their showrooms in this street be it a gadget or a car showroom. All you can find here. So Parkstreet and streetfoods are not a great combo for many. Let me tell you there are very few but quite a famous reasonable foodjoints are available in the street though they are hidden under the bigger names. Among those quite a few I would take the name of a very old but famous roll shop of Parkstreet.

KUSUM ROLL’s As the picture suggests the shop was opened in the year 1971. It is famous for its Egg Chicken Roll and Chicken Cheese Roll. Though they are having various option in rolls so you can get your favourite one over here. I am not fond of Roll but when I tasted at this shop its amazing. The juicy chicken tikka pieces along with shredded cheese makes it even more tastier than a normal roll. Now sandwiches are available everywhere. This shop is also having varieties of sandwiches Here seating arrangement is not there basically it’s a street shop. You can have the roll by talking with your friends and lovers. And trust me it will not pinch your pocket at all. EGG CHICKEN ROLL, you can get it in around 70 bucks and CHEESE CHICKEN ROLL within 80 bucks approx. They also provide DOUBLE EGG CHICKEN ROLLs. The price of it will be at little of higher side. The Sandwiches’ price start from 55 bucks and I am not joking its worth giving a try if you still haven’t yet. It is the shop adjoining to the famous OLYPUB.

NATURALS, Taste the Original As the summer is around the corner and in the scorching heat if you are strolling in the streets of famous ParkStreet, this place will be the apt place for you to just be in a calm atmosphere grabbing one of the best natural flavoured icecream be it a TENDER COCONUT ICECREAM OR SITAPHAL ICECREAM, the choice will be yours. And the price? 77 bucks for one scoop. This ice cream parlour claims to give you the natural ice cream as their name suggests and after having the ice cream from this shop you can not deny their claim. You will be getting here varieties of fruit flavoured ice cream though some of them are seasonal depending upon the fruits’ availability. For Chocolate lovers ample options are there. Among those CHOCO ALMOND , CHOCO CHIPS are their hot selling items. You can taste the flavour from the counter before buying any ice creams.

LAST BUT THE NOT THE LEAST, TEA STALL - If you walk on the roads of Kolkata this only shop that you can find every corner of each streets ,it can be a renowned streets of Kolkata or a normal alley Tea Stall is the one you can find anywhere. Drinking Tea in PARAR MORE_R DOKAN becomes so obvious to us that its now an emotion. Kolkata People and its love for tea is unmatched. As because of the love and need various types of tea are also available now MASALA TEA, KESAR TEA, MALAI TEA, CHOCOLATE TEA, TANDOORI TEA and when we are talking about famous street foods of Kolkata then the name of the Tea should be mentioned here.
