Chicken Wonton

Kolkata and its love for Chinese foods are inseparable, which is known to all. The connection of the duo is such that Chinese food is also a known street food of Kolkata. Here, we are going to explore such famous Chinese Restaurants of the town. Before getting into the details let us take you to the memory lanes of Kolkata.

It’s said as per the history during 1700s Hakka Chinese traders started settling in the city and since then the connection has established. At first, they used to involve in export business to earn their livelihoods, later they started gradually involved themselves in the other means of works. Restaurants or the eateries are one of those.

Chilly Garlic Fish

In Kolkata if you want to get the vibes of Chinese para you may not feel anything at present, but if you want to have authentic Chinese foods with a little fusion, then there are two places in Kolkata which welcome you with open arms, We are going to talk about such restaurants along with their popular as well as authentic dishes here.

It is known that the Chinese first settled in the “Grey Areas” of Kolkata which is better known as Bowbazar, Bentink Street and also Territy Bazar. And it is now called old china town as most of the people got shifted to the nearby localities of Tangra. Territy bazaar is still the talk of the town because of their Chinese breakfast in the cheapest rate possible. On which there’s a particular blog in our page, you can definitely look at.

Tung Nam

Chicken Hamchoy
Let us take you to Tung Nam ki galiyon mein😉. This restaurant is one of the famous and authentic restaurants in Old China Town (Near Poddar Court at Present) which is famous for its Pork Wonton/Chicken Wonton Soup. Tung Nam has been providing its quality and tastier foods since 2001. You may not find this restaurant attractive from its outside, but if you enter you will feel and witness the simpliest décor with minimalistic materials, still you will feel the ambience of a well-arranged restaurant. The foods that you must try visiting this restaurant are Chilly Garlic Pork or Chilly Garlic Fish in starter and Pork Hamchoy Rice or Chicken Hamchoy Rice. All of them taste heavenly. For two persons it will take around 600 bucks which is quite cheaper in terms of other well-known Chinese restaurants.

Eau Chew

Next restaurant that we will be reaching through our blog is Eau Chew, it is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants of Kolkata (90 years and still running). Eau Chew means “Europe” in Chinese. As per the founder of this joint, this place was one of the residential places of the Europeans during the reign of British and its contemporaries and hence such name was given. As you enter Ganesh Chandra Avenue at present, you will find an old shabby building behind a petrol pump and there you will be able to see the board as Eau Chew…Welcome. This is now run by the probable fourth generation of the founder. This joint is particularly famous for its Chimney soup and Josephine Noodles. To keep the quality of the food intact they haven’t yet hired any cooks for making their unique dishes.

Previously the chimney soup used to be cooked on the table Infront of your eyes. But at present considering few things in mind they present you hot chimney soup with egg, chicken as toppings. You must give it a try for its awesome taste, Next you can order their “sui- mai” which we actually call dumplings, the soft texture of it is worth a try. Josephine noodles is one of their unique dishes. It is named after Josephine Huang, it’s basically a pan-fried noodle with a lot of toppings. It’s definitely better and tastier than the pan-fried noodles you have yet tasted. Not only these, they have varieties of food items which you can definitely try.

Timings: 12:00pm to 2:30pm (Lunch) and 6:30pm to 10:00pm (Dinner)

Kafulok Bar & Restaurant

Steam Bhetki Fillet
Now we will be heading towards New China Town which has been shifted to Tangra, to be more precise it’s a lane full of Chinese restaurants on each side of the road and it’s situated very closely to ITC Sonar Bangla😍. Kafulok is probably the last restaurant of the lane, and it welcomes you with nice ambience and well managed décor. Through visiting and eating at these places one might notice a common thing in their décor, as everywhere you will find the touch of Red colour. Kafulok is known for its Chicken Wonton and Steam Bhetki Fillet. That Steam Bhetki fillet is little bit costly which will cost around 800, whereas in proportion it’s enough for 3 persons but this taste, you may not get it anywhere else. And the garlic sauce on top of it makes it awwwwweeesome. 😋 And the specialty of the chicken wonton is its texture, so thin and light but tasty as well. You must try those whenever you get the chance of visiting this joint. They also have the varieties of liquors which is a plus for the liquor admirers. Moreover, the car parking is for free.

Timings:  12:00pm to 3:30pm (they take the last order/closing order at 3:30pm for Lunch) and 6:30pm to 10pm (for dinner).

Beijing

Salt and Peeper Chicken
And the last but not the least in this post is Beijing, the restaurant  which can be called as one of well known and most visited Chinese restaurants of the town. It’s situated in the same lane of New China Town.Beijing because of it’s spacious interior has become a go to place for a family get together or dine out. They have numerous items in their menu card and they also offer a hundred of liquor options in a pocket pinch cost. Some of the starters they provide are worth a try such as Chicken crispy fingers, salt and pepper chicken. And the best part of their items is that they are available as full or half plate whichever you choose to have. We have taken the half plates but the quantity of food is well proportionate. If you ever visit that joint don’t forget to taste their Roasted Duck which is available in different marinations and their prawn items. Surely You will love these. For two persons it will cost around 600 to 800 bucks, though the amount will vary upon the choices of food.

Timings:  It doesn’t have the specific timings like others, its open for all day.

We are looking forward to visit the other restaurants as well. Till then, with this one we have probably come up with one of the bests. Stay tuned for more such informations regarding the interesting places and keep supporting us😀. And keep eating Chinese. ✌

Today I will talk about a gem that I found out one day suddenly with the help of internet. The Denmark Tavern, by the name you have already guessed that the place would be anyway related to Denmark.   Yes, you guessed it right but its rightly located not anywhere but in the outskirts of Kolkata, Serampore. If you have read history well in your school days (which I haven’t) you would know that from the year 1755 the urbanization of Serampore started with the arrival of Danes. They used to buy goods from Sheoraphuli hat which they used to export in the European Countries through the way of River Ganga and for this purpose they had taken lands which was situated closel
