Part-1
People of Kolkata are known for their love for food, we are often recognized as foodie and so are we.😋 We are proud of that. Kolkatans don’t only believe in having food, but also believe in having a good quality of food. By time Kolkata has adapted many different cuisines which are inspired by different part of India or even the World, as in Chinese, Tibetan, Italian, Mughlai and so on. Kolkata and it’s people have given these cuisine a touch of their own with so much love and care. 😍
And so is Biryani, it is one of the famous dishes from Mughlai Cuisine. Though it’s originated from North India, as because once it was the centre of Mughal dynasty. In Delhi it’s named as Mughlai cuisine, possibly the word ‘Mughlai’ is used as it’s inspired by the Mughal emperors. In Lucknow the cuisine is given name of ‘Awadhi Cuisine’. In South India many distinctive varieties of biryanis can be found , It’s also said that in various parts of South India Muslim communities were present and the recipes are inspired by them.
Though there are many arguments available in this topic, Some has said that it’s originated from North India inspired by the Mughal emperors while few others have claimed its originated from South India as in army men used to make pilaf(pulao, in modern word), one pot rice mixing all spices and everything , therefore Biryani is the updated version of the same. Though many are having the opinion that both the dishes are cooked in different process and ingredients are also quite different to each other. But the cooking style of dum pulao is somewhat similar to the cooking style of Biryani as per few. 😉
Biryani is another name of emotion to the most of the people of Kolkata, through this blog Kolkata’s Trending will take you to the Biryani Trail of Kolkata.💓 Each part will be dedicated to one such famous and popular restaurant which is known for it’s delicious Biryani. Our today’s stop is Dada Boudi Biriyani.😋
Dada Boudi Biriyani
Dada Boudi Biriyani is a huge name to the biryani lovers of Kolkata. It’s a famous restaurant of Barrackpore. Yeah I know most of you must be thinking that Barrackpore is not in Kolkata,it’s the suburb. But this is the best part of this restaurant, being in the suburb it’s quite famous among the people of Kolkata. If you are here in Kolkata, and want to go for a biryani trail then this joint must be there in your list. 😀 We are therefore no different, and will give you guys little bit of details about this particular joint.
This particular restaurant was started by a couple taking a one small shop of their ancestors nearby the barrackpore station, it was first started just to provide good food to the daily passengers as well as the local people who used to come here during lunch time to have lunch at very cheap rate. Very soon the taste and quality of the biryani started attracting more and more people, soon they became famous among the local people and the nearby areas.😉 Most of crowd were seen standing in queue during the lunch time. Still if you visit it during the lunch time you might have to stand in the queue.
Now this business is looked after by the children of the couple, the Saha brothers. Their’s Chicken and Mutton Biriyani are too delicious. And the best part is their mutton biriyani. The mutton pieces are so juicy and soft at the same time which is very rare in other famous biryani hubs of Kolkata. Me being not a lover of mutton can proudly say the soft mutton that they provide is hardly available anywhere. Therefore, it’s a must try. Now they are so popular that they have introduced many new dishes in their menu. They used to provide banana leaves instead of a plate for having Biriyani. That idea also made them unique. Though things have changed now, many would tell that this restaurant is overhyped, but this restaurant still can participate in the competition and probably win it for making A1 quality biryani of town. 👍You can go anywhere and taste the best of best but you hardly get the taste of their biryani. It’s awwwwessomee in one word.😋
There was only one flaw in this restaurant previously, as there was not enough place to sit for the customers. Now they have rectified the same and in the opposite lane of this old joint they have opened an a.c restaurant where you will not only get enough places to sit and enjoy your food but also they have introduced Chinese cuisines also in the menu.😇 So it’s a win win situation for the food lovers.😉 In the year 2019, they inauguarated one more outlet in Sodepur. So now they have three outlets all together.
Once they had sold the biriyani in 11 rupees also, now the chicken biriyani would cost you around 200 bucks where the mutton biriyani would cost 240 bucks. Apart from biriyani, the other dishes which also you can try are as followed- Dragon Chicken(Chinese starter,cost- 170Rs), Chicken Kolhapuri(Indian main course gravy, cost – 180Rs), Mutton Kolhapuri(cost- 320Rs). Once I had asked them any special menu was there or not in the tandoor starter, they had suggested to try Chicken Bharwan, I had tried, it was super super tasty. This one is a complete personal recommendation.👍 You won’t get it in their menu card, you can ask for it directly. The unique quality about this particular dish is when you bite the leg piece, you would get the mince mutton as well. 😋 To make you feel more hungry photos are also being attached.👍
So this is it for today, in the next part there will be another stop in our biryani trails at any of the renowned biryani hubs of Kolkata.
If you have visited this restaurants or you are going to visit ,then click the photos of the food and you can tag our facebook page @Kolkata’s Trending and participate with us in this biryani trail of Kolkata.
P.S Few restaurants use the word “Biriyani” in their menus instead of ‘Biryani’ for example the latest restaurant we have talked about in this blog. Both the words are correct as there are other various alternative names also given to this wonderful dish as it was initially a local dish in the beginning.😎
Moreover the prices of the biryanis mentioned above are subject to change.
